Lois Peterson Lois Petersen has a background in school counseling at all grade levels and also in the mental health field.  She is committed to developing the whole student and works with students and families to help each student achieve his/her potential.  

Mrs. Petersen is a graduate of National University in La Jolla, California and received her Master's in School Counseling from Western Carolina University.  She has been a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor since 2006 and achieved her National Board Certification in 2010.  Mrs. Petersen is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, camping and trail riding on her horse Rohan. She also has experience with equine-assisted psychotherapy. 

Ms. Barbara Burlingame

Helps Grades 10 - 12 with last names H - O.    AP Testing Coordinator.
Barbara Burlingame Barbara (Babs) Burlingame has been a school counselor since 2012.  After graduating from Northwestern College where she received a B.A. in Music Education, Ms. Burlingame moved to Chicago and taught high school band for 12 years. 
While in Chicago, she received her M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction.  She then realized her passion for helping students went beyond the classroom and went back to school for her M.A. in School Counseling from Concordia University.
Prior to joining the Enka High counseling department, Ms. Burlingame was a School Counselor at Madison High School in Marshall, NC for 3 years.

Mr. Derwin Williams

Helps Grades 10-12 with last names P-Z.   Lead for National ACT Registration/Testing.
Derwin Williams
Derwin Williams began his career in college admissions, working in both private and public settings at Brevard College and UNC Asheville. 
His professional accomplishments include being named "High School Counselor of the Year" in Henderson County and being selected twice for terms on the "Carolina Counselor Advisory Team", a national group of high school counselors who advise the admissions staff of UNC Chapel Hill on admissions programs and procedures.
One of Mr. William's favorite places to be other than western North Carolina is Girdwood, Alaska. 

Ms. Megan Shaw Tobin
School Counselor:  MS   670-5000, Ext. 128
Helps Freshman Students.  504 Coordinator.
Ms. ShawMegan Tobin is a graduate of Spelman College and received her Master's in School Counseling from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She has been a School Counselor since 2015. 

Mrs. Tobin enjoys working with students and having the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students every day! She is thrilled to be working with students, teachers, administrators, and parents of the Enka Community.

Prior to joining the Enka High counseling department, Mrs. Tobin was a School Counselor at Enka Middle School. 

Ms. Lisa J. Von Dohlen
School Social Worker:  MSW, LCSW    670-5000 ext. 101
Links students/families with Community Resources.  Helps access Alternative Education Programming.

Lisa Von-Dohlen Lisa J. Von Dohlen has been a school social worker since 1992 and has worked in Buncombe County Schools since 2008. She began working at Enka High School in 2012. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from Lenoir-Rhyne University. She holds a Masters of Social Work from the University of South Carolina and a post-master's certificate in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Her professional accomplishments include being named the National Association of Social Workers - Virginia Chapter "Social Worker of the Year" in 2006 and the Buncombe County Schools "Social Worker of the Year" in 2013.

Ms. Donna Hyatt
Counseling Secretary  670-5000, Ext. 123 
Coordinates Student Records and College Transcripts. 
Donna HyattMrs. Hyatt is a 1982 graduate from Enka High. She married Kemmy Hyatt, who also graduated in 1982. Donna started working at EHS in November of 1987 as a teacher assistant. In 1988, she worked as our receptionist until taking on the job of Counseling Secretary in 2010.

She and her husband have 3 daughters, Katie, Kirstie and Karley, who are all EHS graduates.

Outside of school, Mrs. Hyatt likes being with her family and friends, but her favorite thing to do includes spending time with her granddaughters, Maci and Eleni.
