AP Biology

AP Biology

Course Overview

The AP Biology course is designed to be the equivalent of a two-semester college introductory Biology course.  In accordance with the AP Biology Curriculum Framework, this course will be structured around 8 Main Topics.  Investigative labs will also be an essential component to this course.

The pace will be fast and rigorous.  Students need to be highly motivated, and able to work independently, as well as in groups.  This course mandates a lot of required reading outside of the classroom.  To be successful, each day at least 1-2 hours of work outside the classroom will be needed.  All AP students will be required to take the AP Biology Exam on May 11.  Students can potentially earn college credit for success on the exam.

AP Biology is divided into 8 units: Percentage are the AP exam weights.

Unit 1: Chemistry of Life 8–11%

Unit 2: Cell Structure and Function 10–13%

Unit 3: Cellular Energetics 12–16%

Unit 4: Cell Communication and Cell Cycle 10–15%

Unit 5: Heredity 8–11%
