The region’s biggest school band event is set to celebrate its golden anniversary. The 50th Land of the Sky Marching Band Festival, hosted by Enka High School, takes place Saturday, Sept. 28 at the school’s stadium.
“This festival means everything to the Enka community,” shared Kevin Young, Director of Bands for Enka High. “It’s funded thousands of student scholarships, purchased instruments, and has taken care of the Enka Band program for generations.”
The Enka Band Boosters started the festival in 1975 with just four bands. This year, more than 30 high school bands will compete, including Owen, North Buncombe, A.C. Reynolds, and T.C. Roberson. The festival also features exhibition performances by Enka High School, Enka Middle School, and Western Carolina University’s Pride of the Mountains Marching Band.
Admission is $12 for adults. $10 for kids ages 6 to 10. Children 5 and younger are admitted free. Click this link for more info and the full festival schedule.
