Buncombe County Schools (BCS) is proud to cheer on the spelling bee champion from William W. Estes Elementary.
Elise Moore is a fourth grade student at Estes, and is the only student from BCS to compete in the statewide spelling bee on March 17. Media Coordinator April Cooke says she is excited for Elise.
“I think it’s an amazing opportunity for Elise to represent Estes and BCS,” she said. “The skill of spelling has become extinct since technology has the capability to correct our spelling. Plus this competition is always fun for students to experience.”
For Elise, all it took to win the school wide spelling bee was a little faith.
“I was scared at first, but then I believed in myself,” she said. “I would say my teachers here at Estes helped me become a better speller.”
Ms. Cooke said she hopes that next year more BCS schools participate in a countywide spelling bee, but says this is something she will continue to do for years to come at Estes.
