BCS families and teammates, thank you for all of your efforts at home and in the community to recover from the devastation of the hurricane. Our hearts continue to be with you. We want to let you know Buncombe County Schools will remain closed until it is safe to open. That will require power and water restored to our buildings. We are grateful to the repair crews who are working hard to make that happen. However, there is substantial work to be done. To help families plan, we will give you adequate notice when we know a date when it is safe for Buncombe County Schools to reopen. Please continue to take care of yourself and your family. Our theme for this year is “Together We Rise” - and recovering for this storm will demonstrate that. Thank you so much!

Based on the Hurricane's tremendous impacts to our families and neighborhoods, the decision has been made to close all Buncombe County Schools for the entire week, Monday Sept. 30 through Friday Oct. 4. These will be annual leave days for staff. In the days, weeks, and months ahead, the school system is committed to continue supporting our families and staff. We hope you and your family continue to be safe. We'll continue to keep you updated as our team works to safely reopen our schools. Thank you.

As our area continues to cope with impacts of Hurricane Helene, Buncombe County Schools will be closed Mon 9/30 and Tue 10/1. Both days are annual leave days. As our school system continues working with local emergency management officials, we will keep you updated about schedules for the coming days. Please stay safe!

Attention Enka High School Sophomores and Juniors - Enka will be giving the Pre-SAT exam on October 17th. For Juniors this is a chance to become a National Merit Scholar; for Sophomores this is an excellent opportunity to see how you would do on the SAT college entrance exam. The cost is $20 and there are only 50 tests available on a first come first served basis. Bring your $20 to Student Services to guarantee your PSAT spot ASAP - it will fill up quickly!

High School Summer Academy is for students in grades 9-12 who need to recover a course previously failed or move more rapidly toward graduation by taking full credit courses. Buncombe County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson has appointed Katie Harris to be the new principal of Enka High School. Harris is currently the principal of Pisgah Elementary. Her new position marks a return to Enka High School, where she previously served as an assistant principal. She’s also served Buncombe County Schools in roles at Enka Intermediate and Candler Elementary. “We’re so fortunate to have the right person already in the Enka district,” said Dr. Jackson. “As someone who has been dedicated to serving students in this district, and an Enka graduate herself, Katie Harris is deeply rooted in the community. She understands what it means to be 'Proud to be a Jet!' We are thrilled that she’ll continue to keep the Enka Jets soaring.” Harris will take the place of Jeff Burleson who is retiring at the end of this school year. Mr. Burleson started his career with Buncombe County Schools as a student teacher at Enka High School in 1991. He was appointed Enka’s principal in 2020, after serving the school as an assistant principal for five years. The search is underway for a new principal to serve Pisgah Elementary School.
